ridership for the On Demand public transit system in Fort Erie has risen significantly since its introduction in October 2021, particularly in the east end of the Town; and Whereas the number of riders in the east end of the Town warrants the introduction of a conventional bus route in that area, similar to the former Green Route; and Whereas the On Demand system is still required throughout the Town even if a conventional service is added to Fort Erie’s public transit; Now, therefore, be it resolved, That: Council requests that the Niagara Transit Commission institute a conventional bus service for the east end of Fort Erie, commencing in 2025, similar to the former Green Route, which ran between the Town Hall hub east to the Niagara River between Dominion Road in the south and Bowen Road in the north, taking into account where the most critical mass of riders within that area exists and tailoring the new service to ensure cost-effective service, appropriate hours and bus stop locations, a one-half hour loop if feasible and all matters incidental thereto ; and That: The Niagara Transit Commission continues the On Demand service throughout Fort Erie to accommodate rider movement going out of or coming into the conventional bus service area and inter-municipal travel.
